'Struggle In Scout's Honor'

“ Scout’s Honor” by Avi is a realistic-fiction short story about three 9-year-old boys who want to level up in boy scouts, in order to do this they must venture out of New York and go camping in the country for a night. However, they do not have adult supervision and have no experience with the country or wildlife. In the beginning, the boys talk to their troop leader, he tells them to go spend the night in the country. They continuously try to be manly and get to new jersey. Soon, the boys go through a lot of bumps in the road and struggle to be tough. In the end, the boys give up and head home. After the turn back, they admit to their feelings and thoughts about the situation, and realize that the most manly thing they could do, is be honest. This story shows that the boys are afraid admit that they aren't tough.

During their brave adventure, the boys came across a large seemingly endless bridge that they must cross to get to New Jersey. The great bridge was full of clouds so thick you couldn’t even see the other side. Max even implied that maybe there wasn't’ another side, and every car that crossed it was just dropping off at the end. In paragraph 78, the narrator came across what looked to be a chance to prove his bravery to his friends. He thought up the brilliant idea of walking towards the bridge on his own like a tough guy,and just wait for his buddies to back down for him. That way he could look bold and courageous, and not have to let them see his fear. However, when he looked back, they were coming, his heart dropped. This shows that he will do whatever it takes to prove himself to be manly, but he is not as tough as he would like to
