As a nurse on a Med-Surg floor, the majority of patients I take care of are of the elderly population. I had an elderly patient who had sensory deficits. She had a difficult time seeing and was very hard of hearing. For my article, I am combining the two special groups, older adult and communication deficit, for this particular patient. I have been an RN working at this hospital for about 6 months now. I had previously met this patient at the nursing home, where I worked as STNA before becoming an RN. My patient had hearing aids, but did not wear them as often as she should. She also wore glasses, but even with the glasses she had trouble seeing.
