The first article that I read was the “Back to the Border.” That was a mistake, because I spent the next hour or so really raging about hateful bigots. I was furious at how blind and hateful people showed they could be in some of the articles and how hopeless it seems to change the minds of people who would rather hate than open up to people who are suffering. After being mad at the horrendous and hateful things that are being said about undocumented immigrants, I was puzzled. It boggles my mind what people on the conservative side of immigration issues say, and more so that they believe what comes out of their mouths. It makes me wonder what information that they are given, how they interpret it, and what makes them rationalize such hate for those who are already sacrificing so much. They probably see me, a relatively liberal Latino college student as a crazy person just as much as I see that in them. They probably think that I’m controlled by the liberal media monopoly or some other conspiracy theory. Pieces like this make me think about where I get my information, or why I believe what I say. We aren’t that different from the protestors on the border, or the mainstream leaders that the Potok article points to by name, in the sense that we are all fully entrenched in our own personal
