To begin with, the story says “They believed that hard work would bring them and their children better lives and help them achieve the American Dream”. Poppa believed that hard work would make his family American dream come true. Also, he opened a small grocery store in South Jamaica. Also when Mario was born Poppa worked there for 24 hours every day. They really wanted to achieve their dream they did not give up and kept going when you went in the store the author says that u could ”smell and see and almost taste the food that brought in the customers: the provolone, the Genoa salami, the prosciutto, the fresh bread, the fruits, and vegetables”.
