The movie “How Stella got her Groove Back” is based on, at least partially, Terry McMillan’s, the author’s, life while vacationing in Jamaica. She asked to keep some parts of it private. Terry met and fell in love with Jonathan, her now ex -husband. Because of the death of her mother, Terry was vulnerable and it caused her to fall in love quickly. The movie was released two years after the book. It grossed 11 million in three days.
The main characters are the same in the book as well as, the movie. Angela Bassett played Stella and Winton was played by Taye Diggs. Even though, Angela was trying to plan her wedding during the filming of “Stella,” she did an excellent job.
