Anthem was heavily influenced by Communist Russia and Nazi Germany, (both of which Ayn Rand escaped from) as well as her philosophy of collectivism. Ayn Rand’s philosophy and her alarming escapes from events of her time period influenced the background and purpose for writing Anthem greatly.
A lot of what the society in Anthem is based on is Ayn Rand’s philosophy of collectivism.
