In this section of Blink, writer Malcolm Gladwell explores the psychology of snap decisions and quick thinking. He illuminates how our subconscious affects the way we think and behave. Once explaining that our subconscious is biased he says that we should not always rely on our snap judgments, which happen because of our subconscious. In order to describe the important factors of snap judgment is that “they are very quick,” and “they are unconscious.” The use of these characteristics leads to some very confusing behavior. Since snap judgment are not conscious decisions, when how can we keep ourselves from relying on them? Gladwell believes that this inability to rationalize our quick decisions is the reason that we are hesitant to believe them.
