The man in black had a mystery identity until Buttercup did something incredible. She was running with the man in black, and they stopped to rest by a ravine. Buttercup took initiative and kicked as hard as she could at the man in black. He went tumbling down to the bottom of the ravine, and it was there his secret was revealed. He took off his mask to reveal a beautiful face. It was the face of Westley. Buttercup raced to the bottom to see him, because she thought he was dead. Buttercup took him in embrace and was so excited to see him. Buttercup shoved the man down the mountain, where he took off his mask to reveal the man in black was Westley.
