In this article, David Brooks begins by addressing the different type of divide in this world. Brooks then gives a prominent divide which he calls individualist mentality and collectivist mentality.
Brooks use an analogy of fish tank to explain the difference between these two type of mentality. He says individualist mentality tend to imagine and describe what the largest fish tank is doing. In contrast to individualist mentality, collectivist mentality more likely to depict the environment in the fish tank where the fish swim. The different view of these two mentalities defines the way they see things – individualist see individuals and collectivist see contexts.
