Gordon MacDonald’s book, “A Resilient life lessons” credits his resilient life lessons and inspirations to his long distant running coach Marvin W. Goldberg. Gordon discusses the manners of how a resilient life should look life. He describes five characteristics that all he believers all Christians should strive for.

1. Resilient people are committed to finishing strong MacDonald says it is important to create good patterns early on because they will carry you until the end of the race, which is the end your life. They do not run aimlessly, but are determined by an end goal. The biggest picture that God gives in life is will be found through the pursuit of God. Resilient people listen to the call of God because that is where their direction will come from. The will be changed by the pursuit of this big picture and will effect every aspect of their life. The character of a person is shaped over over the journey and not in a moment. “We don’t change character because it brings success, we change character because it is the right way, the God pleasing way to live” (pg 66). Resilient people run free of the weight of the past Resilient people are self aware and reflective upon the past. They frequently examine their journey so far resolve the past. Cling to unresolved issues; the future resilience will be destroyed. “Unsettled past can have a powerfully negative effect upon a persons ability to sustain a vigorous life” (pg 100).
