This summer, I had an orthognathic surgery, which is also called, double jaw surgery. After the surgery, I could not eat normal food for about a month and half because my jaw was too weak to open wide enough to chew food, and teeth were tied together to prevent me from opening my mouth as well. All I could eat was fluid food like juice, porridge, smoothie, and soup. During the recovery time, I could feel the true hunger for food with empty stomach. In the essay, ‘Hunger,’ Anne Lamott talks about the opposite story of mine; she loses the sense of hunger yet she eats a lot. It proposes the idea of hunger in the perspective that I have never thought about because I thought everyone is capable of feeling hunger and feeding themselves.
