The documentary “James Baldwin-The Price of the Ticket” talks about the life of the writer and poet James Baldwin who was not only an African American writer and poet, but he was also a civil rights advocate. He not only advocated rights for black Americans of that time, but he advocated the rights of humanity. The documentary focuses on the hardships of African Americans in the American South through James. It also discusses the civil rights movement, segregation and racial discrimination. James believed that all men are equal and that we are all “brothers.” He fought for injustice in all aspects such as racial discrimination, inequality of men and women, and gay rights. Through this documentary were able to see what James believed in, what he stood for and what he did to try to change the thinking of the world. Through the documentary, I realized that one of the most important aspects of James’s works was his search for identity as a black and gay man living in a racist and discriminatory country; therefore, we can say that the main point of the documentary was James’s search for identity as a black man living in the United States.
