In today’s society, black deaths are becoming more recognized. Events such as wrongful killings of blacks by police officers are consistently always brought to the face of today’s media. This is due to the Black Lives Matter movement, which has also brought more people to stop ignoring the past of the terrible events that have happened to African Americans. One of them are lynchings. In James Cones’ The Cross and the Lynching Tree, he brings up the topic of lynching and relates it to the crucifixion of Jesus. This book then spurs the debate about the connection between the two.
