All books are a meant for a purpose; some are for information while others are meant to entertain. The book My Bloody Life by Reymundo Sanchez revolves around his life as a gang member. He describes what led him to join a gang and the consequences that were a result of joining it. In the beginning of the book one gets intrigued by what the author talks about. This includes the abuse he went through as a child and becoming friends with gang members. But unfortunately, once the author joins the gang the book becomes repetitive and it is difficult to keep interest. The book failed at trying to persuade youths not to join gangs because of its poor language and lack of data. An author's main goal when writing a book is to keep the audience interested. Instead, the author only talks about killing others. The author wanted to open people’s eyes about gang violence, but it instead leads readers to not enjoy the book. Since he is the one doing all the terrible actions the audience grows to lose respect for the author. One gets disgusted by the things he does and one doesn't want to keep reading. It becomes difficult to read every sentence and one begs for it to finish, to get to the point. It’s the same thing over and over again: drugs, sex, killing, and then he feels sorry for himself. It is a never-ending process. Reymundo Sanchez states in the book that he raped a girl and killed numerous amounts of people for no reason. He did it because he liked it. Reymundo Sanchez never gives graphs or charts to demonstrate all the gang violence. He could've included more data to make his actions less horrific. It would’ve showed that it is a growing problem that has not stopped. Reymundo Sanchez doesn’t include any other sources and so the book isn’t as powerful as it was meant out to
