Neil Bissoondath’s Selling Illusions clearly depicts his feelings towards the subject of multiculturalism. Bissoondath states that he came to Canada “in search of a new life and a new way of looking at the world,” but was met by a society mismatched to his original inferences (Bissoondath, 1994). Despite the Canadian policy of multiculturalism, he believes that the country lacks multicultural ideals which newcomers often expect.
Although Canada is deemed to be multicultural, people continue to segregate themselves from others of different cultures, race and/or religion (Bissoondath, 1994).
