Scott Sawyer, author of ‘Ditch the racism and enjoy Australia Day as it should be’ forthrightly states his thoughts in his opinion piece that was published to Gladstone Observer on the 25th of January. His intention in this piece being to target racist Australians and right them of their wrongs by persuading them that Australia Day represents Unity in diversity rather than alienation to those of different races and cultures.
Sawyer introduces us into his article using emotive language in stating that ‘cool-blooded everyday Australians turn into thong-hurling, profanity-spewing, hot tempered racists’ including the use of an attack when describing the targeted audience.
