Slavery, a horrible and heinous concept that was “ended” after the civil war, is still accepted in other third world countries. Also, because slavery is illegal here in the United States doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. There are children and teens who are sold into slavery all over the world every day. In the book, Hidden Girl, Shyima Hall wrote about her life story about how she was sold into slavery as a child, her experiences while enslaved, and the lasting impact it had on her life.The theme of the book is that sometimes bad things happen to good people; All throughout the book Shyima talks about how she never did anything to deserve how poorly she was treated by her own family and captors, she continuously talks about how she is confused about why she was sold her into slavery, and she informs us of how many innocent people are forced into human trafficking all the time. …show more content…
She clearly hadn’t deserved this cruel treatment; She was a young and innocent girl who had done nothing but as she was told. Her brothers would sexually abuse her when she was no older than 8 years old. She never did understand why this happened or why her Dad was abusive to her, her mom, and some of her siblings. Her captors, who held her in bondage for a little over 2 years, beat her, called her stupid, made her work for 20 hours a day with barely any food or drink, would not treat her when she was sick, and made her sleep in a garage with no light, air conditioning, or heater. She could never make sense of how someone could be so cruel and unruly to someone who was younger than 12 years old and had never done anything to deserve any of those terrible
