In “Sweatshop Oppression”, which is published in the Lantern, which is the student newspaper of the Ohio State University, writer, Rajeev Ravisankar began with a common circumstance, which is people was going shopping on Black Friday, in this article for the purpose of connecting with his readers and letting them agree with him. In the article, he made clear to his readers why working in sweatshops is a grave problem. His first purpose is let his reader not only know the Sweatshop, but also understand explicitly about sweatshops. His second purpose is to explain how the sweatshop still open due to the fact, companies were against of sweatshop. He connected himself with majority of students exhibiting sympathy to his readers. First, he described how sweatshops were led by the low prices. In the meantime, Ravisankar did not find fault with his readers. After that, he delved into and figure out that majority of people never think about why the cost of items we got are so cheap. Then, he gives many details about how companies could be able to sell their items with low price and still earn profit. He began that the employees were working in a high temperature to make products and receiving low hourly wages. Also, they were working too long, 70-80 hours in a week, which is beyond what their normal working hours. And indeed, some of they are children. He described the misfortune about the children which was aim to evoke the readers to feel harm about having children to work in bad conditions. And then he belittled some companies’ creditability through referring to "Multinational Corporations are not interested in giving charity; they are only interested in doing anything to increase profits"(). This is the primary reason to result in low pay, taking children to work, and dangerous working environments.
