Symbolism means a lot to people because there is a background meaning to the object or anything they have. For example in the story the quilt and the dasher had a meaning to it that’s why they kept it. The quilt was handmade and so was the dasher, things like That, that are were handmade have a lot of meaning to it and you just want to keep Passing it down. People take symbolism really seriously and not wanting anything to happen to what they really cherish the most. Mamma Johnson and her two daughters struggled throughout their lives. Dee one of the Daughters who were the oldest never liked the way she lived or where she lived. The House burned down where they lived. Maggie ended up getting burned and having scares. The girls got a lot older and Dee moved away and forgot her momma and sister. Years later it was just Maggie and Momma Johnson. Dee finally came to visit her family after so many years, she came in like she was better than them and she really came for was for the quilt but that wasn’t really happening she really ended up taking the dasher cause the quilt was Maggie’s to keep after she already claimed it.

The character Maggie, her symbolism is burned scars. “The scars she bears on her body have like ways scarred her soul.” Maggie has gone through so much and nobody feels the pain she has went through. She is hurt for what happened to her and wishes it just never happen. (Bmadnick Sagetrieb). It also symbolizes true heritage ”The quilts are not however the only device walker employs to show mommas inherent understanding of heritage.” Her heritage means a lot to her and mama Johnson. Heritage means a lot because it came so far to being where they are at now and nothing can replace it. Heritage comes from other family members that are important to them that cherish the best moments of things they have.
