In "The Dumbing Of America", Susan Jacoby gave her view on how America is dumb due to anti-intellectualism and anti-rationalism. She gave the readers many expanded on why she believe this is true, such as how Americans' can't grasp basic education, on how the much the percentage of reading for pleasure has gone down for both adults and teenagers since 1982, how books are being traded out for electronics, and how the presidential candidates' speeches have been dropped in seconds. She put up a very good argument, but as a wise woman has told me, "No one is forcing you to stay here. If you think Americans are so dumb, then leave." Just as simple as that. I believe that this is kind of manipulative. I may be wrong, but we are told to question authority.
