In the article The Inequality Hype, written by The American Interest, it discussed “that poverty and inequality are not the same. However, it’s worth repeating, because over time a conflation of the two has taken root in common perceptions.” Because poverty has been transformed into inequality over time, people are thinking they are the same thing and believe that the same problems occur with the two different topics. The author then goes on to discuss the basic principle of equality and gives the example of a pie not being cut into even pieces and the person that receives the smaller piece is the one that complains and claims it is not fair. This is just like inequality, but it is not like poverty. However Karl Marx was able to go around the
