In “The Money”, Junot Díaz recalls the time that him and his family were robbed. When he was 12 years old, every Dominican he knew sent money back home to the Dominican Republic. In his case, his family always sent money to his grandparents. Even with the scarce income from his father, they were able to save about 200 to 300 dollars to send back every six months or so (Díaz 114). One day, he and his family left for vacation, only to come back to an unlocked door, a stolen portable radio, missing books, and the money was nowhere to be found.
