Do you ever wonder what your imagination could come up with? Well, as the year went on the narrator realizes that it doesn't matter what others think about him and the character undergoes by showing how he feels about himself and how others view him.

In the beginning, the narrator is very isolated from everyone else and he would rather be alone. It all starts with a science project that the narrator was very excited about. He wanted it to be different and better than what his classmates would ever think of or do, but since his classmates don't respect him he isn't open with his emotions. Even though he is good at football and has good grades his classmates don't forget the fact that he drives a mule to school and is poor. The narrator has worn his mother's shoes and he goes away at lunch so people wouldn't judge him anymore than they already do while he eats fat pork between slices of cornbread. (381) As the story begins, the narrator doesn't care what anyone thought of him and he wants everyone to respect him.

As the days and nights went on he wouldn't stop thinking about the science project and what he was gonna do, until one night he got an idea but before he got excited he talked the idea over with his pa to make sure the idea was okay. Even Though he wanted a good grade, he was going to have to put a lot of work and effort into it. As the weeks went on, his grades began to drop and he was always outside working on his project. His pa didnt know he was working on the project all the time because his pa is always at work from dusk till dawn. (382) As the story begins to end, the narrator still doesn't care what anyone else thinks and he is excited to finish and show everyone his
