The story “Nativist Riots of 1844” is a nonfiction narrative. This nonfiction piece told the story of true events that had happening in 1844, in Philadelphia. This passage explains some events in the 1830’s between Nativists, who were mostly Protestant people who did not like the immigrants in America, and the Roman Catholic and Irish immigrants, which led to massive riots.
Problems had started in 1780’s when “Irish textile workers had come to Philadelphia when they lost their jobs to mechanization in the British Isles.” In this passage, there are two main reasons for the Nativists’ hatred towards the immigrants.
