Eric Greitens, the author of The Warrior's Heart, is a humanitarian volunteer, Navy SEAL, boxing champion, decorated veteran, and founder of the nonprofit The Mission Continues. The book The Warrior's Heart is his account of himself achieving these things. Greitens wrote The Warrior's Heart to inspire young people to find ways to serve in their schools and communities and to use their power, creativity, and strength to serve. He saw a need for this information to be in the minds of people and was consequently prompted to write The Warrior's Heart. One can see Greitens passion about his goal in writing The Warrior's Heart in his thesis, which says “you will have MANY missions… [and] every time you serve, you’ll learn something new about yourself and the world” (263). …show more content…
His family wasn’t rich, so he had to earn money himself at just ten. He worked in lawn care which gave him an avenue to showcase his potential. In just a few years, he was faced with college choices. He chose to go to Duke because of its unofficial motto “Work hard, play hard” (14). While at Duke he pursued a spot to travel to China. He got it. After returning back to the United States of America, he started boxing. By 1994 he was volunteering in countries such as Croatia, Rwanda, and Zaire. After Greitens senior year at Duke, he went to Oxford. Is was here he started thinking about joining the military. He soon went to Officer Candidate School. And next, Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training. He made it through the training and entered combat. As he was fighting, he soon realized that there was a further mission beyond what he was doing. He founded the nonprofit The Mission
