In the article “Tuned In” Mr. Poniewozik makes an argument about twisting the truth in news reporting. He argues that the journalists try to show a side as being a chicken. And how they use only part of the whole true. This applies to history in countless of ways. The government and journalist should definitely not be allowed to use just a fragment of the truth. We the people, have the right to know the truth about history. And no public media should have the right to choose what they want to be real.

If news is reported accurately to inform and alert individuals, it wouldn’t cause a large and negative aftermath. This applies to history as well. Most of the times, journalists try to distort the truth in history. Such as Cleopatra getting

Poniewozik’s argument, if the American government and media do not point at the opposite side even if they were wrong, it could protect lives. Another example of this is through the history of tobacco. Tobacco, is a pure form that is found in cigarettes. And when it was first introduced, many illustrated it as something that was good for your health and social acceptance. Ads all over showed folks saying that the doctor said it was good for their lungs and their body. But in contrary, scientists learned that smoking was bad for the anthropoid body. When researchers wanted to let the public know, the government refused and blocked them from speaking against tobacco. This was because cigarettes was the industry that made the most money for America at that time. So government allowed the media to continue to portray cigarettes as a medical and emotional object that was as good as gold. But just as Mr. Poniewozik said, reporters and the American government should not in fact be able to distort the truth. And later a large negative aftermath of killing large amounts of America’s population took place. And many found out on their own that tobacco was the cause of death. And the people were outraged. How could the doctors and the media, and even the government say tobacco was good for you when it really was not? Just like James Poniewozik said about blaming sides, this was expressed when the government and the reporters blamed the doctors and scientist. The government and journalists started to announce that the American people should sue their doctors and scientist. This getaway was released from sea to sea through news material, an example of distorting the truth and the unfair balance of reporting the side. If we used James’ opinion of showing accurate news, millions upon billions of American lives could have been saved. Pointing sides is not accurate news and that was expressed through tobacco
