Violet trace, who is emotionally unstable. She is married to Joe Trace. Violet has been living in Harlem for many years, but the narrator gives us hints that living in a city is hard and violet got used to all the things that go on in Harlem, and she is just fed up of the city. Joe and Violet are not that wealthy, as Violet only makes some money; she is a hairdresser but she did not complete any degree or program that gives her an actual license that states she is a professional. Violet does not quite fit in with all of the other women in Harlem, she gained the nickname of violent at Dorcas’ funeral, because she gets a raging emotion of violence built up in her body, leading her to stab Dorcas.
