The characters involved in this story are:
Violet trace, who is emotionally unstable. She is married to Joe Trace. Violet has been living in Harlem for many years, but the narrator gives us hints that living in a city is hard and violet got used to all the things that go on in Harlem, and she is just fed up of the city. Joe and Violet are not that wealthy, as Violet only makes some money; she is a hairdresser but she did not complete any degree or program that gives her an actual license that states she is a professional. She does not have an actual building that she works in, clients call her and she goes to each clients’ house, the days that she does not get any call from clients’ she feels lonely, and starts thinking about her grandmother, and how her life would be different if Joe and…show more content… Violet does not quite fit in with all of the other women in Harlem, she gained the nickname of violent at Dorcas’ funeral, because she gets a raging emotion of violence built up in her body, leading her to stab Dorcas.

Alice Manfred– Dorcas’ aunt, describes Dorcas as outgoing and likes attention.
Acton - Dorcas' boyfriend after she ended her relationship with Joe . He takes Dorcas to the party where she is shot and killed by Joe.
Felice - Dorcas' best friend and partner in crime, she tries her best to avoid Alice Manfred's rules. After Dorcas is shot, she kneels beside Dorcas' deathbed. Felice comforts Joe, who is suffering from grief and guilt, telling him that Dorcas chose to die and rejected all powers to seek medical
