About six million Jews and some five million prisoners of war were killed in the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the mass murder of Jews and other minorities that the Nazi regime considered “lesser breeds.” Adolf Hitler, the Führer of Germany in this period, was the main perpetrator behind all the destruction of the country and the millions of lives lost by it. He came to power and had the motive of killing these innocent people just because of their ethnicity. But it wasn’t him who had the blood on his hands. In summary, the Nazi soldiers were also responsible for the Holocaust besides Hitler because they went with Hitler’s ideas and participated in the extermination of Jews and other minorities. Besides Hitler, the SS officers were also responsible for the Holocaust because they helped in the planning of the “Final Solution” for Hitler and led some of the killings of Jews and other minorities. The article “Perpetrators”, by the USHMM, states that “In occupied Poland, SS men including Odilo Globachik, Wilhelm Koppe, Christian Wirth, Franz Stangl, Oswald Pohl, Richards Glücks, and Randolph Hoss established killing centers equipped with gas chambers to facilitate assembly line mass murder.” This supports the claim because it demonstrates one of the many ways that these officers abused their power and killed these innocent people.
