Seven years after the ban on handguns in Chicago the murder rate spiked significantly, not to mention the murder rates from handguns rising to 48% (Agresti). The Obama administration and the Democratic community currently attempting to put restrictions on handguns is absurd and would not be effective. Due to the impact guns have on the current world and economy banning guns would be ineffective to any of the motives anti 2nd amendment people claim this ban is necessary for. First, many statistics taken from various sources conclude that guns save people's lives, prevent home intrusions, and overall reduces crime rate around the country. James Agresti states, “Based on survey data from a 2000 study published in the Journal of Quantitative Criminology, U.S. civilians use guns to defend themselves and others from crime at least 989,883 times per year.” This number is way too high considering the fact that if these people had no access to firearms they would have very little means to defend themselves. From 2008 to 2014 the economic impact increased from 19.1 billion dollars to 42.9 billion dollars. The author from the article “more guns more jobs” also states that “The total number of full-time equivalent jobs* rose from approximately 166,000 to more than 263,000.” (More Guns, More Jobs) The job growth has been climbing up and will only get larger as the gun industry improves and firearms stay on the market. Katie Pavlich from Town Hall magazine states that the average gun industry worker makes around 140,000 dollars per year, and that there are over 200,000 gun industry workers employed currently.
