Should Kids Have Participation Trophies? In life, if you do not get a job, do you receive a paycheck? No. Then why is it we feel children deserve trophies when they lose a baseball game or a soccer game? In today's society, lot of kids are getting trophies for just playing the game. It is not fair to the kids who win and work hard to receive a trophy. Excessive distribution of trophies is not only helping to create entitled children, it is also depleting organizational funds that can be better utilized elsewhere. With all of, kids are starting to expect trophies for everything and are lacking the intrinsic motivation they need to develop skills that lead to success for development.

Trophies cost too much money to buy for everyone. “Trophies cost 2 to 10 dollars per person” (2015,O'Sullivan). Trophies are getting too expensive to pay for each person and the cost are going up each year. We could be spending money on better things like saving people since hundreds of children compete per weekend. For example, “Starpower competition is losing 10% of the money they make because of the trophies they added for everyone last year” (“Dance Spirit Magazine”). Starpower last year decided to give trophies for everyone that danced. Then they did bigger trophies for the people that won but they used to give the small ones out. So they lost money because they use to only give out for first, second and third place. They think that every kid needs to have confidence but it is making them go into debt. In all, trophies cost to much money to pay for everyone to have. Therefore we should not give trophies to the games kids do not win.
