This story describes a young adult (Angela) who started college in a Position 1: Strict Dualism from Perry’s theory of Intellectual and Ethical Development in the college years. This position describes a person who was never exposed to various viewpoints. Thus, thinks that what they know and believe in is always right, and people who do not think this way are wrong. When Angela was sick and saw that her roommate started to taking care of her, she became confused because she thought her roommate was immoral as she did not believe in God and yet, was helping her. This is where she moved to a Position 2: Multiplicity (Prelegitimate), where she was exposed to different social experiences and it was difficult for her to accommodate these new experiences.
