Summary: The Cloud Lakes Trail

A group of four people from Los Angeles were grouped together by their gym trainer to go on a multiple day hike through the Sierras. Gwen, Oscar, Todd, and Tracy, the trainer, were set to go on the Cloud Lakes trail. After arriving at the ranger station, they received news that a wildfire was spreading across the trail. One of the rangers told them about a rugged trail that was no longer maintain by the park. The group questioned it, but decided to try and hike the thirty-mile loop. The four hikers came to a fork in the trail, and without a map, guessed which way to go. Many hours passed, and then they stumbled on to a huge marijuana farm. For the next four days they were shot at by an unknown person, and the group was on the constant move over the mountain pass. The unknown person shot Oscar in the shoulder just before they found out that there was yet another valley and mountain to cross. Moving was slow because Oscar had lost a lot of blood, and Tracy slipped and fell into a boulder.

One theme that Nina Revoyr reveals in her book is that what seems like a good thing could be life threatening. The hikers thought that they were going to be on a beautiful multiple day hike through the mountains, but find themselves stuck in the middle of a gang war.
