How would you feel if your tissues were taken out by the doctors without your permission? This is a huge problem that people face today around the world. For instance, the novel The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot is a great example of how a patient’s cell tissue was taken out by doctors without giving permission by the patient. Tissue cells are extremely significant and beneficial to people. Donating cell tissue gives doctors ideas of how to treat other illnesses. Also,”Donation of tissue by individuals and patients is an immensely important gift to the process of medical research” (Donating tissue to cancer research). Doctors have the right to treat a patient in order to enhance the patient care, but patient right of her or his cells tissue. To begin with, even though patients ought to have right to their tissues after they are taken out, there are no federal laws stating that patients do have right to their tissues. Do patients still own tissue cells once doctors removed them out of their bodies (Devine)? No, they do not. There are many people who feel that patients should not have the rights to their tissues. Ted Slavin was one of a guy that had rights of his cell tissue after the doctor took them out. He was born a hemophiliac. His doctor was unlike John Moore’s. He was working with his doctor to do research on his cells. Also, he teamed up with others with valuable blood and created a company and sells blood.
