The constant theme was the railroad system and how military support was easily attainable through large distances. The discussion also states how railroad system help many people migrate to the Southwest and establishment of commercial trading was made. We didn’t discuss very sufficient on how the railroad system impacted the Southwest economically and culturally. One thing that was somewhat mentioned was the importance of water in the Southwest and how famous John Wesley Powell found ways in water control such as canals or dams.
