The Midnight Assassination
The homicide of John Hossack will always be a mysterious cold case. The person who truly killed John will never be known from the very little evidence left in the bedroom. Though with very little evidence all fingers pointed to Margaret Hossack and Mrs. Wright for the killing of her husband. Therefore, Margret and Mrs. Wright story wasn’t adding up to how her husband was killed and Margaret and Mrs. Wright was the one sentence life in prison. There are two sides to every story and only John and Margret and Mrs.Wright knew what happened that very night.

Although Margret story doesn’t add up, she could have had someone help her kill her own husband. He was a farmer and an abusive man, therefore, she couldn’t act alone to kill her husband because he’s a lot stronger than she is. The dark side of Iowa says, “Shep was reputed to be an active dog with a tendency to bark at stray cattle and strangers. On the night of the murder, Margaret testified that she had heard Shep barking vigorously between 9 and 10 PM, but neither she nor anyone else recalled the dog making any noise later, or at the time of the attack.” It’s strange how she heard the dog, but she didn’t hear her husband being murdered. I believe that someone she knew helped her kill John. If the dogs didn’t bark to a stranger than the dog must of known the person who killed him. Maybe Margret wanted someone that knew her dog so when John is sleeping the dog doesn’t wake him up. Although in the play I believe Mrs. Wright poisoned him with rat posing. Since they did live in a farmhouse they must of have a lot of rats posing so it wouldn’t ruin crop or invaded their home. Mrs. Knew her husband was strong and she wouldn’t be able to him herself. She must of put rat posing in his food or drink and when he went to bed, he must of not felt good at all. Since she knew he was weak she just finishes killing her husband. Mrs. Wright is a cold hearted woman so I believe she just wanted to get rid of John for
