Worldly genocides are horrific acts of inhumanity. Different organizations treat specific groups of people as if they are less than everyone else, even though they are still humans themselves. The Rape of Nanking was a war between the Japanese army and the civilians of China. The Rape of Nanking symbolized the great evil of Japan, being that it was a very brutal and catastrophic genocide. In the years of 1937 and 1938, the Rape of Nanking was, like stated above, a war between the Japanese Imperial Army and the Chinese people. The war started on December 13, 1927, not only against the people, but also against the Chinese P.O.W. The main targets of the Japanese were Chinese women, young and old, and the Chinese soldiers. A killing contest is just what it sounds like; a contest to see who can kill the most people in a certain amount of time. This was the first killing contest to successfully killing one-hundred people by the way of sword. By the end of the day, December 10th, both had killed over one-hundred people. However, Noda killed 105 and Mukai had killed 106. Since they didn’t know who hit one-hundred first, they decided to bump the required number up to 150. This proceeded on December 11th, killing 150 people instead.
The Nanjing massacre is not the only aspect to this war. The Rape of Nanking became another major topic for concern. Chinese women, to the Japanese, were symbolized as “objects” and were only there to be the Japanese’s form of “sexual pleasure.” Within the six week fighting period, between 20,000 and 80,000 women were brutally raped.
