It was just over a week ago when I watched the Super Bowl. Like every other super bowl before, it was filled with tons of food, herendously expensive seats, and an over the top halftime show. The thing that caught my eye though, was the commercials. The overly patriotic ones specifically. All of them, ranging from commercials about things being “made in the USA” to commercials about troops coming home. Now theres nothing wrong with wanting a troop to come home or even having a commercial about it, but the response is what gets to me. The people that say, “go America!”, “were the best!”, or “only good things are made in the USA!” claiming that their patriotic for saying this. This is wrong. People aren’t patriots for simply sitting back and just talking, the real ones are the ones who get up and do something.
So then what is being a real patriot. Well, being a patriot can mean a lot of things. It can be soldier serving his country, somebody volunteering at a soup kitchen, or somebody donating to the disabled veterans association.
Soldiers may be the finest example of a true patriot. People willing to put their lives on the line to protect the country they love, is something I may never fully comprehend. People like Iraqui veteran Mr. Ables said that “Courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to face it.” It’s a known fact that most people aren’t willing to fight for their country and those that are, are heroes and saviors to us all. I don’t hear of too many veterans or currently serving soldiers, sticking a confederate flag
