Government Surveillance of Citizens
There have been advances in technology over the last decade in order to facilitate government surveillance of citizens. There are unintended consequences to government surveillance of citizens like retrieving private information from them. There are also intended consequences of government surveillance of citizens which includes the protection of citizens. Since the nine-eleven attacks, there has been an increase in domestic and international mass surveillance of people. Government surveillance of citizens is exactly how it sounds, the spying of people. It all begins when Victor Frankenstein creates a creature because he was fascinated in creating life out of nonliving objects. This creature follows Victor all around because he is lonely and Victor tries to avoid the monster. One day the monster perambulates around to look for food and comes across a small hovel where he will stay. One morning while the monster was eating breakfast, he spots a girl walking into a cottage that was located near his hovel. While he was observing the girl he notices “a small and almost imperceptible chink, through which the eye could just penetrate” in the cottage where the monster could see the girl rearranging the cottage’s decorations and anything else the family is doing (Frankenstein 75). The monster spying on the family is similar to the government having surveillance of citizens. He exordiums to prowl on the family through the crack in their cottage. As he continues to spy on the family, the monster discovers information about the family and their financial status. The government spies on citizens and tries to keep it a secret from the people that the government has access to citizen’s privacy. It is important our government protects and serves the citizens of the United States because without our government we would not have a country. The government may invade citizens’ privacy, however it is better for the government to be safe rather than sorry. Their job is not aimed at invading citizens’ privacy but to find suspicious activity. Citizens need to be surveillance to prevent travesties from happening in our world like nine-eleven.
