Or savages?” The popular TV show, Survivor, features a group of contestants who are abandoned in an isolated location, where they must provide food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves. The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about a group of young boys who are stranded on an secluded island, and must work together to survive and provide for themselves. Fear, survival, and the need for companionship connect the TV show Survivor and the book Lord of the Flies together.

In some people, it can flip their mind and make them go outrageously savage. This explains how Jack and his ‘apostles’ act after being on the island for a while. The same thing can happen to the contestants from Survivor. A girl by the name of Sabrina talks about another girl who seems to be a bit out of her mind. “[She] needs to be soothed. She’s a hot mess right now.”This shows that being out in the wild can take a part of you mentally.

The need for companionship is quite overwhelming when you are in isolation. Luckily, both Survivor contestants and Lord of the Flies characters have each other, but it can get hard when it comes to survival of the fittest.
