“Let the atrocious images haunt us. Even if they are only tokens, and cannot possibly encompass most of the reality to which they refer, they still perform a vital function.” (Doc. D)
Admittedly, Sontag does state that her belief that violent images should not be shown, unless action is taken. On the other hand, people should be aware of what is going on in the world, and photos can be manipulated with. Therefore, it is wrong to only view violent images unless action is taken, as she states.
One of the reasons why Sontag is wrong is because we should be aware about what is going on in the world. Bringing reality to the people is what everyone needs. “As a free press, we have the responsibility to bring that reality to our citizens.” (Doc.B) This is saying that it is their responsibility to make sure people see, and hear about the real world. Not only to bring reality, but it allows people to appreciate, and give the acknowledgment that soldiers need. “…
Shooting war, noted that many soldiers praised the photograph and the accompanying editorial.”(Doc.A) As this is saying that the photo has a positive tribute. Having to hide away these photos from the public means hiding away actuality, and that is fallacious because it keeps us from learning about the world we live in.
Another reason why Sontag is wrong is because photos can be manipulated with. They can change even the smallest of things, and we could still perceive it as different in the end. “…
