Suspense is a state or condition of mental uncertainty or excitement, as in waiting a decision or outcome, usually accompanied by a degree of apprehension or anxiety. Stories such as the “ Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket”, “ The Masque of the Red Death” and “ Terrible Things” have examples of suspense. Those details of suspense make the reader wonder, feel various emotions and even make them ask themselves questions of what is going on in the story. Suspense is also all about making the audience anticipate what is next.
To begin with, in the suspense filled story “ The Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe the author often made the readers wonder, ask questions, grow curious and even feel fear with bizarre details. One good example

One example of suspense would be “ Little Rabbit saw their terrible shadows before he saw them. They stopped at the edge of the clearing and their shadows blotted out the sun”. (Bunting 1). This is an example of suspense because it makes the audience fear for the innocent little rabbit. it is also an example of suspense because it can cause the audience to ask themselves questions on why the rabbit is so scared. One good example is “ But the Terrible Things swung their terrible nets higher than the squirrels could leap and they caught them all and carried the away” (Bunting 2). This is a good example of suspense because it makes the audience wonder why they are always trying to catch the animals. Also, this is a good example because the terrible things also definitely can cause the reader to fear them as much as the animals. Another great example is “ The rabbits scampered in every direction. “Help!” they cried. “Somebody help!”. But there was no one left to help them, and the Terrible Things carried them away” (Bunting 3). It is a great example of suspense because it gets the reader interested and thinking what will occur next. Also, because it causes the audience to feel bad for the rabbits and the pressure on the rabbit is intense because it is fighting for its life.
