For humans sustainability is the long-term maintenance of well being, which has environmental, economic, and social dimensions, and encompasses the concept of stewardship[->0], the responsible management of resource use[->1]. Stewardship is an ethic that embodies responsible planning and management of resources[->2]. The concept of stewardship has been applied in diverse realms, including with respect to environment, economics, health, property, information, and religion, and is linked to the concept of sustainability[->3]. In ecology[->4], sustainability describes how biological systems remain diverse[->5] and productive over time, a necessary precondition for human well-being. Long-lived and healthy wetlands[->6] and forests[->7] are examples of sustainable biological systems.

Stewardship is an ethic that embodies responsible planning and management of resources[->8]. The concept of stewardship has been applied in diverse realms, including with respect to environment, economics, health, property, information, and religion, and is linked to the concept of sustainability[->9]. Historically, stewardship was the responsibility given to household servants to bring food and drinks to a castle dining hall.
