In Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Tim Burton uses his skills in point of view, imagery, and his use of symbolism to modern society to lock his viewers in a sort of trance while they are watching his film. Over the years, Tim Burton has become known for creating visually striking films that blend themes of fantasy and horror, including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. As a child, Burton was captivated with classic horror and monster films, especially those of Roger Corman—many of which featured bizarre villains portrayed by Vincent Price. Burton’s favorite actor soon became Vincent Price. Furthermore, Burton loved horror movies that were based on Edgar Allan Poe’s poems, like Tales of Terror, The Raven, and The Masque of the Red Death.
