Yahoo began as a student hobby and evolved into a global brand that has changed the way people communicate with each other, find and access information and purchase things. Yahoo Inc. is a worldwide internet corporation that started in Sunnyvale, California. It was said to be one of the most successful startup companies of all time by market capitalization, revenue, growth and cultural impact.
Yahoo is internationally known for its web portal, search engine, and other related services such as Yahoo Directory, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Groups, Yahoo Answers, advertising, online mapping, video sharing, and fantasy sports. According to various news sources, around 700 million people visit the Yahoo website every month. Yahoo was founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo in 1994 and was integrated in March 1995.
Recognizing their new company had the possibility to grow quickly, Jerry and David began to shop for a management team. They hired a chief executive officer and a chief operating officer. They then secured a second round of funding in fall 1995 and launched a highly successful IPO a.k.a. Initial Public Offerings (which is often issued by smaller, younger companies seeking the capital to expand) in April 1996 with a total of 49 employees.
