In the book Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens we see a man whose name is Sydney carton is in love with Charles Darnay’s wife, Lucie Manette. Although Sydney knows that he will never be able marry Lucie he willingly takes Charles place to get his head chopped off. Sydney was a man of redemption. Redemption- an act of redeeming or atoning for a fault or mistake, or the state of being redeemed, deliverance and rescue. Madame Defarge on the other hand is a woman of revenge, Defarge wanted justice and to her to get justice meant to get rid of all aristocrats. Revenge- The action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands. Madame Defarge longed for revenge and Sydney Carton wanted redemption.
