Sylvia Path’s poems are still prominent at this point in time because she had an exclusive style of writing that consisted on reflecting her emotions and personal conflicts in her poetry. Her most recognized composition was called “Daddy.” Sylvia Plath wrote “Daddy” in October of 1962, however the poem was released to the public until 1965. Path’s poem is depicted around the negative feelings that she encountered with her dad throughout her lifetime. Sylvia Path’s father, Otto Path, passed away of diabetes when she was only eight years old. The lack of communication could have been originated by her position of feeling inferior to her father. In addition to feeling inferior, she perceived her dad as immense and intimidating since her childhood. She creates a connection between her tongue, her jaw, and barb wire. Sylvia Plath mentions “I never could talk to you/ the tongue stuck in my jaw/ it stuck in a bar wire snare”/ to define that every time she tried to communicate with her dad she was unsuccessful. Furthermore, she indicates that her tongue was stuck on barb wire to emphasize that communicating with her father was practically impossible. As a matter of fact, barb wire can cause awful damage to every human being that has contact with it. Therefore, she makes the audience understand the delicate situation she was in and how difficult it was to make a connection with her father. Lastly, she declares “ich, ich, ich, ich,/ I could hardly speak /I thought every German was you/ An the Language obscene” to specify that although she was trying to have a conversation with her father, the words were not coming out of her mouth.
