Every marriage is different, from the symbolic interactionism view point. Marriage, in America is a good example of symbolic interactionism. The symbols include the wedding rings; the commitment vows, the brides white wedding dress, the wedding cake, the Church ceremony, wedding venue, the flower arrangements and the music. Although American society has attached general meanings to each of these symbols, an individual has their own perceptions of what these symbols mean to them.
