In the film ‘Hotel Rwanda’ directed by Terry George, symbolism was used to develop the idea of mans’ inhumanity to man. Three symbolism used were the machete, the interhamwe uniform and a teddy bear impaled on a spear. So the machete is symbolism of war, killing, genocide and death because it is knife that can cut and be weapon. The interhamwe uniform is symbol about group of the Hutus and the last is teddy bear impaled on spear that about death of children. These three symbols are important in the film.

George Rutaganda said “Read our history. The Tutsi were collaborators for the Belgian colonist, the stole our Hutu land … Watch your neighbours.” It is the reason George Rutaganda hated the Tutsis and thought about genociding the Tutsis. So George gives the machetes to the Hutus from his warehouse for the Hutus to kill all of the Tutsis. For example the Hutus go to a safe camp with UN at the first time but some the Hutus know that and stop the truck of UN and take the Tutsis on the truck and used the machetes to kill them but not all because some army helped them. It shows a teddy bear on a spear which is a symbol for children. The Hutus want to kill all of the Tutsis because the children will grow up to be adults and the Hutus don’t want to be with the Tutsis. And a purple wig is worn by one of the Interhamwe to represent the fact they are having fun killing the Tutsis people. I was a little stunned. Why is killing people fun?
