December is when Poe’s mother died and it is on the cusp of a new year, a new beginning. Another symbol in “the Raven” is Lenore and how in this poem the narrator is broken, no longer has the will to live, because of his wife's death. This relates to when
Poe’s wife, Virginia, died. Lastly in “the Raven” the narrator is asking the raven if Lenore is in the Plutonian shore. The Plutonian shore is a symbol for the underworld or the otherside. In conclusion, “the Raven” has very many examples of symbolism these were only a few examples.
