The Symbolism of the Sun, Cave and Journey between Two Allegories
Individuals will not know whether the life they are being presented with is the truth or a lie in which we are obligated to survive in. The reality in which each individual is living in probably seems like the truth but how do we really know whether it is the truth or what is shown. How does one know whether the reality seen or believed in is the true reality or what is being shown to the individual? The different symbols in the allegories are the sun, cave, and journey; the first comparison is the symbol of the cave in “The Allegory of the Cave” and The Truman Show are extremely similar as the caves represent the boundaries in which the prisoner is trapped, however the false reality itself varies between the allegories

Second, the comparison of the sun between both allegories are also identical as the sun represents the source of true essence, and the truth behind the reality, but in different forms. Last, the journey and assent which lead up to the truth of the reality are different as in the situation in “The Allegory of the Cave” the prisoner was dragged out while in The Truman Show, he has to overcome obstacles to determine the truth of the world. Therefore, through an examination of the sun, cave, journey and assents, in “The Allegory of the Cave by Plato” and The Truman Show by Peter Lindsay Weir it was evident that the main ideas within the allegories were similar, along with most symbols present, although the journey and assents of the allegories vary as in “The Allegory of the Cave” the prisoner is dragged out of the cave into reality or the true world while on the other hand in The Truman Show, Truman catches hints
